About Samantha

Samantha Adams graduated from the University of Guelph in 2021 with a degree in Theatre Studies. During her degree, she took part in experiential learning in the Theatre department with Professor Troy Hourie where she was able to gain hands-on and exciting industry experience. She is continuing to grow her skills at George Brown College where she is currently studying Fashion Techniques.

What kind of Experiential Learning did you take part in while at U of G?

Working on a production with my professor Troy Hourie and two of my cohort peers.”

What was the program with Troy Hourie like?

“I was one of the creators and designers for a puppet house, which was a part of a pandemic themed puppet show put on by Troy. The students each got a puppet to design a house for, and after the design process, we got to build the houses. They were then used in the production that was put on outside.”

What was the most valuable part of Experiential Learning to you from the experiences you took part in?

“Being able to be a part of the design process from start to finish and the construction was really enjoyable, and it was a great experience to be able to see my design and my work used in a professional production.”

What are you doing now?

“I am studying Fashion Techniques and Design at George Brown College.”

Did your Experiential Learning at U of G help you build the skills and/or passion to get there?

“It helped me realize that I need a creative career!”

What would your advice be to current U of G students?

“It’s all about connections, put yourself out there and you’ll never know what could come up!”
