Peer Helper Services
The Peer Helpers will offer a hybrid service delivery for the fall, being available for both in-person and video call appointments.
Peer Helpers can provide support for resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, LinkedIn, and mock faculty conversations.
Please note that applications for graduate school or other further education should be seen by a Career Advisor, as Peer Helpers only assist with applications for employment or volunteering.
We are happy to provide two different ways to connect with a Peer Helper.
1. Booked Appointments
Login to Experience Guelph and select Career > Peer Appointments to book a time to meet with a Peer Helper. Peer Helpers are available:
In-person: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Here's how to find the Experiential Learning Hub.
Online: Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
When booking an appointment, the top of the page indicates the location (either 'Virtual/Online' or 'Experiential Learning Hub'). Please be sure to select an appointment with the appropriate choice for your needs.
Note that bookings in Experience Guelph must be made 48 hours in advance, but we may be able to provide a same-day appointment. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org indicating the times you are available and the nature of your appointment, and we may be able to book you in for a time to meet with a Peer Helper on the same business day.
2. Email Correspondence
We recognize that rural internet connections, challenging living situations and other factors can be a barrier to meeting with a Peer Helper via video call. This is why we are also offering the option for you to email in your documents for feedback.
To receive feedback on your resume, cover letter or LinkedIn profile via email, please email email@example.com and a Peer Helper will reply with feedback in the comments of your document within two business days (excluding holidays and university closures).
Our fully trained and supervised Peer Helpers can assist students with the following:

- Cover letter critiques
- LinkedIn profile critiques
- Mock Interviews
- Mock Faculty Conversations

Mock faculty conversations are a new appointment type being offered for the first time in the winter 2020 semester. These are similar to mock interviews, with the goal of helping students practice discussing opportunities for research or getting to know a professor.
To book a mock interview or a mock faculty conversation with a Peer Helper, login to Experience Guelph, click on "Career" and select "Peer Appointments" (interview bookings requires 48 hours notice). Please note: Mock interviews with a Peer Helper are for undergraduate students in preparation for job interviews. Graduate students and those looking for help preparing for interviews related to further education can attend a drop-in session with a Career Advisor to request a scheduled mock interview.
